THE nine secondary schools in National Capital District will no longer lack resource materials after Governor Powes Parkop donated science, accounting and business studies textbooks last Tuesday.

NCD education operations superintendent Stephen Lapan acknowledged the governor for the continuous investment in the human resource development.

“If we do not look after our children now, who will?

“You are living an unhealthy life if you have not contributed towards the development of someone who will later take your place.”

Acting deputy city manager Kila Dick said the development of important tools in life must be prioritised.

“This is why we must contribute, participate and provide useful materials for their well being.

“Classrooms must have materials like desks, tables, chairs and books. Do not just build a classroom and leave it as it is.

“We have realised that textbooks are important as they are extremely useful in a student’s learning phase.

“In this modern era we see children involved in issues like drugs and alcohol.

“We are looking for ways to encourage them into becoming good citizens of this country, and we believe that textbooks will give them such an opportunity.”

The nine schools were Gordons Secondary, Kila Kila Secondary, Gerehu Secondary, Marianville Secondary, Badihagwa Secondary, Jubilee Secondary, De La Salle Secondary, Tokarara Secondary and St Charles Lwanga High School.

The newly-established Koiari Park Adventist Secondary School missed out but NCDC has promised to consider it in the next listing.
