NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop will officially launch the NCD Soccer Association next Wednesday at the Gerehu sports oval.
Parkop through the NCDC has committed a substantial amount of money for the nine-week tournament.
NCDSA chairman Peter Levete said 40 men’s and 40 women’s teams are excepted to participate.
Levete said the NCD organising committee would use the tournament to select a team to represent NCD at the 5th PNG Game in Kokopo in October.
The playoffs are slated for June 9 and finals on June 30.
The NCD training squad will be announced during the finals.
The chairman said the final squad wiould be named on Aug 31 after eight weeks of training.
Levete appealed to interested teams to register quickly as late registrations would not be accepted.
He said the Port Moresby Suburban Sports Association competition was an ongoing programme and different from the NCD Soccer Association which focused on Team NCD and the PNG Games preparation.
The NCD Soccer Association was given the approval by NCDC Community and Social Services Manager Kila Dick and Parkop to stage this competition.
“This will mean that the POM Suburban Soccer should select their teams to participate in the NCD Soccer Association,” Levete said.
