THE NCD Public Servants Soccer Association are hosting double header matches to fast-track their competition after a late start.
Interim NCDPSSA chairperson Vonnie Kapi Natto and committee member Thomas Piliwas are rescheduling the draws to ensure the competition ends before December in preparation for the NSL season in January.
“We started the season very late.
“We had to organise teams at the last minute after NCDPSSA chief Simon Koima vanished while his deputy Justus Baobo was struggling to keep the competition afloat,” Kapi Natto said.
She said despite starting late, NCDPSSA were in full throttle to ensure the competition finished smoothly.
The competition leaders, Wantoks United, will have two tough matches on the weekend.
On Saturday, they will face fast-finishing Musa while on Sunday, they take on the Mussau Islanders of New Ireland.
Hosts PNG Institute of Public Administration will have to play above themselves to beat Yamaros Lions from Gerehu and Musa from ATS Settlement.
Lions, under coach John Pips, have an effective counter-attacking style .
To be serious contenders they must lift their performance, especially on defence, to stay competitive with other established teams.
City United, who lost their mid-week clash to Lions 2-0, are certainly going to bounce back when they meet Unisols in the main game on Saturday.
On Sunday, City will take on Tarangau.
The competition will also be put on hold next week when the Southern Region Besta Cup qualifying tournament is played at the PNGIPA Oval.
