THE National Development Bank’s current products displayed at Divine Word University’s open day has attracted and convinced hundreds of people to get loans through its schemes.

The bank’s micro-finance loan scheme became the eye catcher for people who were planning to start up small businesses.

Many gathered and asked questions and sought answers from staff on how to go about getting loans.

Bank officer John Mundi said people wanting to seek loan assistance should form groups of 20 people form a community based-organisation, as a requirement to get loan.

Mundi said the major scheme currently rolled out at its Madang branch was the “Madang District Liklik Kredit Scheme” introduced by Madang MP and Police Minister Nixon Duban.

“The Madang District Liklik Credit Scheme is a very successful project and I can already see the good future it holds for Madang people,” Mundi said.

He said more than 3,000 people through CBOs had applied to get loan assistance through this scheme. The loans would be presented to some on the official opening of the bank in few months time.

Bank manageress Marianne Uraiwa said clients were tested firstly in the micro-finance scheme.

Uraiwa said identified faithful loan re-payers were recommended to apply for individual loan in the commercial scheme.

Lucy Bele, 42, from Enga but resides in Madang, is a recipient of the scheme and has shared her testament.

Bele was given a loan assistance of K5,000 last year twice and proved to be a good loan re-payer and was offered a step higher to get 15-seater bus next week under the commercial scheme.

“NDB supported me help my family and will be giving me a 15-seater bus next week, I thank the bank for supporting small people like me, this is my bank,” Bele said.
