POLICE Chief Superintendent Perou N’dranou is pressing on with his campaign to make Port Moresby clean during a community-speaking session at East Boroko yesterday.
N’dranou asked the residents of Mangomain, Kipo and Vadavada to help police fight crime in those areas.
“We have to work together to go against the minorities who are causing trouble everywhere by reporting matters to us while addressing your youths to stop crime activities in the community,” N’dranou said.
The police awareness programme throughout the city is also part of preparations for the Apec Leaders’ Summit in November.
The officer in charge of community policing and public relations in Boroko, Inspector Patrina Dikin, said: “If the place is clean and peaceful then services from outside will come into the community.
“It is a give-and-take thing for everybody. There is no need for a hotline.”
People had suggested a hotline, like in Lae, which allows people or anyone to call in to report a crime or suspicious situation and people.
N’dranou said it was about time people came out and connected with police to fight crime.
“Don’t expect a lot from police, think reality and address the youths now,” he said.
Community representatives raised their concern about problems within their community but police encouraged them to report any matter.
