NEC to appoint Petroleum head
By LUKE KAMA
THE National Executive Council will appoint a secretary to the Department of Petroleum after receiving a short-list of candidates, Minister Dr Fabian Pok says.
Pok said the position had been advertised and the Department of Personnel Management would submit the short-list of candidates to the National Executive Council.
“The department will continue to have an acting secretary until the process is followed for a substantive appointment.”
Pok told staff of the department he had no authority to appoint a permanent secretary after they raised their concern with him.
Department’s human resource manager Pora Warena said there was an urgent need for a permanent appointment to move the department forward.
“Given the significant developments in our country’s petroleum industry with new prospects coming up, we need to have investor confidence and the Government should make a permanent appointment to give stability to the department.”
