POLICE Commissioner Gari Baki yesterday announced that the National Executive Council has approved K25 million last week for the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary to establish a social security benefits fund.
Mr Baki, who revealed this yesterday at police headquarters in Konedobu, said the benefit fund was an initiative of the constabulary and the police association in addressing the welfare of their members throughout the country while in service and upon retirement.
He said among the projects to be covered under the fund was a housing programme.
Pensions and other post-service entitlements are also covered.
Mr Baki said a submission would be prepared for inclusion in next year’s budget.
He said the social security fund was part and parcel of the future restructure and retirement programmes for the constabulary.
