A SUBMISSION to restructure energy supplier PNG Power has been approved by the National Executive Council.
Public Enterprises Minister Sir Mekere Moratau said it was important that quality services were provided to the people.
He said Yonki hydro power will be separate from PNG Power and developed as a special purpose entity.
Other developments will take place in the Ramu 2 hydro power and the Marenda gas to
increase power supply.
He said the problems faced by PNG power should have been fixed over the past nine years.
He said K5 million parked in a trust account had evaporated over the years.
“We will address the issue so that power is effectively delivered to the people,” he said.
He said PNG Power was responsible for the transmission, generation and sale of power.
He said coal power was not needed in the country as reliable power sources had been identified by the government.
