A SIX-lane boulevard will be built by the Chinese government linking Waigani Drive and Parliament House.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill thanked Chinese Ambassador Xue Bing for the assistance.
It is part of a K110 million Chinese government grant which will also include the rehabilitation of the Poreporena Freeway.
The road will be used during the Apec meeting in November and afterwards to help alleviate the traffic congestion problem in Port Moresby.
It will be called Independence Boulevard and will be a world-class six-lane road that can be used for celebrations such as at Independence Day. “Both the Poreporena freeway and the boulevard will be the main Apec routes, where motorcades of leaders will be travelling,” O’Neill said.
The boulevard will be constructed by the China Harbour Engineering Company.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop said the relationship between the two counties had grown in trade, investment and development aid.
