THE new aid post opened at Bilbil village will serve the ward 17 community in the Ambenob local level government.
The concept was an initiative of the Ward 17 Women’s Association, which realised the need for such a basic service as many of their sick found it costly travelling to the nearest health centre in Danben.
Together with Bararo Kiri, a ward member who believed in the idea, Ambenob LLG health authorities and the provincial health office will supply medicine and basic medical equipment.
Mothers group president, Jasmine Sassale said the aid post would be useless if it did not have a worker and thanked the National Volunteer Service for having a community health worker, Vitus Wiasuka, based there.
There were celebrations on Wednesday as the community grasped the “nothing for free but through hard-work” mentality.
Wiasuka said despite the women getting criticisms when the idea was first formed, their dream had become reality.
“When they stand to dance and celebrate on their big day, they will be proud as their imprints are all over the aid post,” she said.
“With no financial backing
from any source, the mothers persevered through small fundraising activities.”
Wiasuka praised the women’s efforts and said he had not worked with such an organised women’s group before and believed they could deliver more for people of ward 17.
