New block for Orokana primary
The National, Monday March 31st, 2014
MORE than 500 children at the Orokana Primary School in Southern Highlands, will benefit from a brand new K1.9 million learning facility built by Oil Search.
That was made possible through the company’s participation in the Government’s tax credit scheme.
The new facilities, which include a double classroom, library, new administration office and a fully-furnished staff house, were opened and handed to the community on March 19.
The classroom is furnished with new desks, black boards, teacher’s table and chairs. Three existing double classrooms were refurbished.
The new library adjoins the new administration office, which features office desks and chairs, a modern kitchen and bathroom amenities.
Orokana Primary School headmaster George Ibuga was thankful their school was identified by Oil Search to have its facilities upgraded.
“I thank the Government through the Department of National Planning and Monitoring for approving the project submission that enabled this project to begin in the first place,” Ibuga said.
Oil Search tax credit co-ordinator Cliff Wep commended the school, especially the local community for its support during the project’s construction.
“These new facilities will help support learning so, as important stakeholders, we must all take ownership and responsibility for looking after the facilities so that our children can fully benefit.”
