PAPUA New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) president John Kapi Natto says the governing body will appoint a new standing committee to oversee the National Soccer League (NSL).
He announced this during the launching of the 2021 NSL season last Thursday while acknowledging former NSL board members under the chairmanship of Benny Popoitai.
Kapi Natto said the former NSL board had to be reverted in order to meet Fifa’s requirement and the standing committee would be similar to that of the Women’s NSL.
“The past board members, under the chairmanship of Benny Popoitai, had done an excellent job in the last season in ensuring that the men’s NSL continued to be played at a high standard,” he said.
“The executive committee will be appointing a new standing committee for the men’s NSL that will be announced soon.
“It is unfortunate that the NSL will be played in two conferences (northern and southern) due to the coronavirus (covid-19) restrictions and protocols.
“Possibly, next season, it will be back to the league system and we hope that happens if all the players want to be vaccinated.”
While congratulating all 14 2021 NSL teams, Kapi Natto warned them to follow competition regulations.
“We have two youth development teams this season,” he said.
“This is PNGFA’s new development pathway for youths at the semi-professional level.”
