New central city a waste of money
The National, Monday 05th March 2012
WITH the writs to be issued soon, Central province governor’s call to move the headquarters to 14-Mile is laughable.
K10.5 million is a lot of money and I question how the headquarters can be built within eight weeks.
I strongly call for him to leave this issue until the new government comes in as the new governor may have a better alternative.
With Port Moresby city’s current trend of physical expansion, it is quite unrealistic to build the central city at either 14-Mile or Bautama.
We cannot afford to spend millions of kina and realise 10 years later a need for another new city.
There has to be a feasibility study done and proper planning in place to determine a site that is not only convenient and accessible, but also geographically independent.
The governor had 10 years to implement this and I believe it would have been established should it be a priority for him then.
