THE Simbu Inland Fish Farmers Cooperative Association opened a new office in Kundiawa, Chimbu, this week.

The new office will help more than 30,000 registered inland fish farmers in the province to access funding and other benefits.

Fisheries cooperatives coordinator Presley Mondo said Chimbu was the only province in the Highlands to, have a well-organised fish farmers cooperative with registered members qualified to access funding from the government and other interested agencies.

He said fisheries activities was considered something belonging to coastal provinces but Chimbu had disproved that.

“The Government must now start to secure markets for the farmers as production is starting to flow,” Mondo said.

He said the production of their inland fish farmers was slowly reaching open markets and they would work hard to get more help and benefits for farmers in the province.
