ALMOST 2,000 people attended the opening of the new Lutheran church at Upanompa village, in the Yonki dam area of Kainantu district, last Friday.

Lutheran church head Bishop Giegere Wenge, officially declared the church open.

Representatives from Evangelical Lutheran church Kainantu district led by the Rev Fuaka Frisu, as well as representatives from ELCPNG Ona circuit witnessed the opening.

The church was built by the people of Upanompa village, Bioka No. 1.

PNG Power manager Andrew Magaya was among those invited to take part in the opening and celebration of the new church.

Magaya said PNG Power had contributed K5,000 for it.

In the sermon he delivered, Wenge challenged the people of Gadsup to stick to the church they belonged to, and to change from their old ways and accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to experience and see the grace of God.

He said the Gospel had the power to change anyone who accepted and decided to give up his or her sinful habits.

Wenge stressed the starting point of change had to come from the family unit where children should be disciplined at an early age.
