New e-books helping students read more

Education

Elementary school students in Central will have access to electronic books, thanks to the Together for Education Project.
The project, funded by the Australian government, launched an e-library application at three elementary schools.
Rose Ovia, the teacher in-charge of an elementary school in Kairuku, said the e-books would encourage children to read more and improve their literacy level. Elementary two student Sege Kila, 9, said he enjoyed reading.
“This e-book is nice because now I can read and see the pictures that go with the story,” he said.
“I hope we could spend the whole day reading instead of other lessons.”
The founder and chief executive of Library for All, Rebecca McDonald, said: “We’ve been working on this pilot project for almost a year and it’s good to finally see it being launched. It is also encouraging to see parents reading with their children.”
Library for All is a non-profit organisation that supports communities to access to affordable education materials.
