New executives take charge of trialthlon

 THE PNG Triathlon Association elected new executives for 2013 at its Annual General Meeting in Port Moresby on Saturday. 

The new executives are Annette Coppola – president, Andrew Duggin – vice president, Mal Symthe – treasurer and Caroline McGann – secretary. 

The general committee comprises of Susie Pini, Stephen Sallun, Matt Ford, John Raboa – Telikom Cycling Club, Francis Matmillo – Ok Tedi Triathlon, Gilbert Sarry – Sepik Iron Man, Stephen Damien and Mark Shephard

The major task of the new executive is to sort out their mon­thly triathlon events and the upcoming Pacific Islands Triathlon series.

The monthly triathlon received sponsorship from Global Construction.  The first race will be held at Ela Beach on April 27 followed by one on May 25. 

Stamping and roll call will be at 5.30am and that closes at 5.45am for each event. There will be no registration on the day.

Coppola said the triathlon series would ensure they were race ready for the three major events of the year:

l The Pacific Islands Champ­ion­ships for Triathlon and Cycling to be held from August 24-25. It will have participants from Tonga, Fiji, Cook Islands, Guam, PNG and Solomon Islands;

l the age group category World Championships in London from September 11-15 – a self-funded event and athletes will be representing the country and wearing PNG Tri Suits. Expressions of interest must be sent by May 1 through the PNG Triathlon Association, and,

l PNG National Championships – October 2013.

The aim is to develop a team for the Pacific Islands Championships and the National Championships and have the opportunity to compete together.
