TWO new franchises from Gulf and Central are bidding for inclusion in the 2018 semi-professional rugby league Digicel Cup competition.
These two new clubs are likely to be supported by their respective provincial governments to submit their applications. Last Friday was the deadline for expressions of interest for the 2018 Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition Digicel Cup.
Three old franchises — Gulf Isapea, Hagen Eagles and TNA Lions — were also making re-entry submissions to the competition’s board.
These three were excluded from this year’s competition and have made their intentions known to reapply for entry for 2018 season.
They are still members of the dissolved PNG National Rugby League who attended a board meeting in Port Moresby chaired by chairman Adrian Chow.
The seven current franchises are two-time champions Lae Tigers, Agmark Gurias, Hela Wigmen, Enga Mioks, Goroka Lahanis and Waghi Tumbe.
