JIWAKA’S taxpayers will no longer need to travel to Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, to comply with their tax obligations.
The Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) now has an office at the Jiwaka provincial headquarters at Kurumul.
The office was opened yesterday by Jiwaka Governor Dr William Tongamp and IRC commissioner-general Sam Koim.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Jiwaka provincial government, IRC officers, business representatives and the public.
The office was allocated by the Jiwaka government as part of its endeavours to benefit from revenues generated by IRC in Jiwaka.
Koim thanked the Jiwaka government for allocating the office space.
He said the IRC had assigned three officers to Jiwaka and delivered a new vehicle to support the work.
“We are proud that IRC is the first statutory authority to have a branch in Jiwaka and to be part of this pioneering work in this new province,” he said.
Koim said the setting up of an IRC branch was a commitment he made in June last year.
