THE dream of Goilala people in Central to have a road access, a key infrastructure to trigger development in the area, could become a reality soon.
A new road, called Duby Highway, will be built along the old Duby Track, which is 100km from Duby to Tapini Station, thanks MP William Samb.
Samb said there was not much time left before the 2017 general elections and is focusing on infrastructure development.
Launching the road last Friday at Kuriva with Kairuku Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo, Samb stressed that the road was vital.
“With due respect to health, education and other sectors, I can say that without infrastructure, you cannot prosper,” he said.
“If infrastructure is in place first, other services will fall in line.
“My focus within this short time is to build infrastructure.
“Today marks an important occasion for the people of Goilala because folks at Woitape Station who used to walk for four days and three nights to get here, could walk for only two days.
“This is a 100km road that needs K100 million.
“If we can reduce two days by covering a short distance for K1 million this year, that would be better.
“We are giving away our land for free for this development and this road must be completed before the elections.”
He announced Kaia Works Civil Engineering Contractors would start construction soon.
Isoaimo commended Samb for taking the initiative, saying road woes were an issue Goilala people had held close to their hearts for a long time.
“It is a relief to the Goilala people and it is a relief to me as MP for my electorate because most Goilala’s live in my electorate and I have been dealing with so many problems,” he said.
“I am confident that this road will open up new opportunities for Goilala people.
“They have huge potential for agriculture and they can become the food bowl of Port Moresby.
“All they needed is better roads and infrastructures that will help them.”
