A NEW K2.5 million lodge in Chuave, Chimbu, was opened last week to boost the hospitality industry in the province and to generate cash flow and provide jobs for the people.
The Waramai Ikinem Lodge started off as the Waramai Guesthouse in 2008 to provide affordable transit accommodations for those travelling the Highlands Highway as well as those in Chuave coming from Siane-Nambayufa and Elimbari areas.
The guesthouse was upgraded to a lodge after the management decided to take advantage of the opportunities of a growing local hospitality sector.
The lodge offers single, executive self-contained rooms with conference facilities.
Waramai Ikinem Lodge managing director Nathan Kopon said with the increase in business and travel in the Highlands he expected the lodge to do well.
“Our lodge is situated on the banks of the Waramai River, at the border of Eastern Highlands and Chimbu, and attracts tourists and visitors,” he said.
“Having businesses like this in the districts helps generate income and strengthens the local economy.”
Kopon said he was compelled to expand the guesthouse because of the increasing number of people who were visiting Chuave, Chimbu and neighbouring provinces.
