NEWLY-appointed Young Women’s Christian Association of Papua New Guinea general secretary, Diane Kambanei is determined to help underprivileged women.

Kambanei, from East Sepik, said the gravity of cases of human and sex trafficking, brutality, beatings, sexual assaults and forms of violence on women and children was alarming.

“Human and sex trafficking emerged last week after two under-aged girls from Jiwaka province were part of a compensation payment,” Kambanei said.

“There are many more unreported cases.”

Kambanei said she wanted these issues effectively addressed.

“With my international connections in YWCA Canberra and Geneva, I want YWCA PNG to partner with the Government, international development agencies and other stakeholders to reduce or stop human sex trafficking and other challenges,” she said.

She said together they could eradicate the issues through appropriate strategies, education and training programmes.
