Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso has confirmed the budgeted cost of the planned Goroka market redevelopment is K30 million.

She said it was not K13m as reported recently and not K50m as speculated by some people.

The Government will pay K10m as Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is fully supportive of the project, she said.

The Goroka market project will be supported by satellite markets in the three maritime provinces of Madang, Morobe and National Capital District. Each will cost K10m

“It’s only a two-storey building. Some people are going around saying it’s a three-storey building worth K50m,” she said.

“Eastern Highlands people take their vegetables to Madang, Lae and all the way to Port Moresby.

“They will be accommodated in units built within these satellite markets. They will be required to pay a small rental.”
