New officer takes over support battalion

A NEWLY-established and reformed unit of the PNG Guinea Defence Force, the Force Support Battalion (FSB), witnessed the handover parade for their commanding officers at Murray Barracks yesterday.
Lt-Col Francis Kari, from East Sepik, replaces the outing going commander, Lt-Col Benoma Siria.
Kari had the director of military police and the commanding officer for the 1st Royal Pacific Island Regiment at Taurama.
Kari graduated from the China National Defence School with an advanced diploma and masters in military last year.
He said he would uphold his belief in the Bible, the Constitution of PNG and the laws governing the administrative and operational functions of the PNGDF.
He said in that way the FSB could provide support to the Defence Force and other stakeholders.
Kari said attention would be given to the commander’s intent of getting the basics of soldering right.
He said he would strive to assist in restoring lost pride and improving on the negative public image about the force.
“PNGDF is a discipline organisation and we in it should uphold the attributes of a discipline soldier.”
