New play school graduates 21 pioneer students

A new play school at Kefamo in Goroka held its first graduation last December.
University of Goroka lecturer and board chairman for Peter Torot’s Play School, Bomai Witne said the school started with 27 students last year and was blessed to celebrate first graduation.
Witne said the play school was an initiative of parishioners from St Joseph’s Vocational School, Goroka.
He said it was a unique and important graduation because many children that attended public elementary schools did not attend play school.
The first 21 graduates of the school were therefore fortunate.
“Many parents were unaware that children learn faster and effectively at an early age. However, early learning facilities were non-existent in many communities,” he said.
“Instead parents and government tend to believe and support primary, secondary and tertiary education more than early childhood learning.”
Witne said some parents learned and appreciated the importance of early childhood education because it helped early cognitive development for children.
“A partially blind parent praised the school because his child could read to him,” he said.
