A K1.1 MILLION new police station was opened at Mutzing station in Markham, Morobe, on Friday.
Funding for the Mutzing Police Station was made possible through counter-funding by the National Planning and Monitoring Department through former minister Richard Maru and the Markham development authority (DDA).
The station accommodates eight office spaces complete with a reception, toilet and shower, an armoury and a cell block that contains six lockups with toilets.
Markham MP and Vice-Minister for agriculture Koni Iguan said it was more than five years since the old police station went up in flames and police work had not been effective since.
“Over the years, police presence and policing work were not effective because officers and policemen and women have had no proper office to operate from,” Iguan said.
