New postgraduate course launched

THE Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) has launched a new postgraduate programme to address corruption and moral decay in the country.
In partnership with the Development Associates International of the United States and the Christian Leadership Training College (CLTC), it launched a new master of arts in organisational leadership early last week.
Facilitators were Dr Jane Overstreet, Dr Harold Overstreet, Dr David Price, who came with his wife, Margaret Price, and Dr Bruce Renich from CLTC.
Head of the department of communication and development studies, Dr Garry Sali, said the programme, which would be housed in the department, was a blended learning course offered through the distance mode.
He said the programme aimed to provide a high quality postgraduate education at the masters level to enhance the effectiveness and integrity of leaders in institutions and organisations in order to maximise the quality, relevance and value of the products and services they delivered.
“Additionally, to provide an educational experience, which results in a qualitative change in the leader’s life, relationships, and leadership practices,” Sali said.
The programme is aimed at middle management public and private employees.
Twenty students have registered for the programme and they are going through the first residency with the facilitators from the US, Australia and PNG.
The students will enrol for 12 subjects, with a dissertation in their third and final year.
Sali said: “This means that the students will enrol for two subjects per semester.
“They are expected to complete this programme in 2015.”
Each semester, marks and grades will be submitted to Unitech’s communication and development studies department for processing.
“This is wonderful opportunity for busy public servants and private employees who want to complete a postgraduate in organisational leadership and management,” he said.
It will be offered each year and interested people should contact Sali via email at [email protected]
