New president happy with achievements

NUNI Kulu has been appointed president of the Papua New Guinea Business Council (PNGBC) after serving as vice-president over the last two years.
In her first address to the council at its annual general meeting on Monday, Kulu said she was happy with what PNGBC had achieved over the years.
“Since joining the council in 2014, I have observed the importance of Government and private sector engagements and I have seen a great number of successful interactions between these sectors,” she said.
“There is still a lot of work to be done to enable regular interactions between the Government and private sector.
“I am keen to work with PNGBC’s financial and executive committee to make sure the issues we face are understood by the Government and the public.”
Kulu said there was a need for balance between the Government and private sector even though the sectors’ roles were different.
“PNGBC is the voice of the informal sector and it provides the platform that we can have both sectors have the necessary discussions,” she said.
Kulu is an executive at the Bank South Pacific (BSP), serving as its digital general manager.
Outgoing president Robert Nilkare said one of the principal roles of the president was to actively engage with prime ministers and minsters to ensure policy or law reform initiatives did not affect business and economic growth.
