OUTGOING Public Solicitor Frazer Pitpit yesterday said the public office is not any one’s birthright to hold on to after they have been replaced.

The longest serving Public Solicitor, Pitpit said all public office holders should accept the government’s decisions to replace them and move on.

“When public office holders’ term expires and the appointing authority makes a decision to replace them, they must not fight tooth and nail to cling on. It is not your birthright. Be happy to exit and move on.”

Pitpit, who had served for 12 years, said he was happy to hand over his position to Jim Tamate during the swearing-in ceremony of his successor.

The ceremony was held at the Waigani Court House in Port Moresby

Meanwhile, Justice and Attorney-General Secretary Dr Lawrence Kalinoe, when paying a tribute to Pitpit, said: “You have built the office from 60 lawyers to 170 lawyers now. That’s an achievement you should be proud of.”

Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika said Pitpit had served the people of PNG well and with distinction and should hold his head high.
