AIR Niugini will operate an additional flight to Singapore, chief executive Simon Foo announced last Friday, bringing the weekly flights to five starting April 1.

“We’ve been operating for a considerable time now to and from Singapore in the last year or so and business has grown tremendously … and we will be putting an extra flight to Singapore,” Foo said.

He said the new service will operate on Tuesdays using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

That was the second aircraft which had been retrofitted for this flight.

“We will have five days a week to Singapore and two days a week to Hong Kong for those travelling to Asia and to other connecting points to Africa, Europe and the world,” Foo said.

“Passengers travelling from Singapore to other international destinations will have enough transit time to make their connections to other parts of Asia and the world as our flight arrives at 6.45pm (local time).”

The new service will leave Port Moresby at 4.25pm, arriving in Singapore at 6.45pm (local time).

Air Niugini flies to Singapore every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday with the latest inclusion of Tuesday.

Meanwhile, general manager commercial Dominc Kaumu explained on the special 40% airfare, saying when supply for the discount price was sold out, passengers would now pay the normal fare.

“The discount that was announced two weeks ago has already come into effect.

“It is important to understand that the many discounts that were available, may not be available in certain flights.

Kaumu said it was based on the supply and demand.
