A NEW system will help officers in charge of the health information systems maintain an updated data on patients in provincial hospitals.

Dr Shearman Phil from the Health Department and a team of health information technicians have come up with a new reporting system to replace the raw data system or monthly reports systems.

Phil said the health reports would now be tallied on a tablet, as well as the patient’s data and other health information.

The tablet and reports will be directly sent to the health department in Port Moresby.

He said information and directions on the tablets would be easy to manage.

“The system is designed to locate specific locations of patients and the population density of the place the patients resides in,” he said.

He said the tablet would keep records of the sickness making it easy for doctors to click on the screen and keep a tally instead of writing down descriptions as used in the old format.

Health Information Officer for the West New Britain Provincial Health Authority Charles Mone welcomed the new technology.

“The new system is a more efficient method of keeping health records as it is saved on the network and will not be lost even if the tablet is lost,” he said.
