A K17.8 million road project for the Bomana Correctional Services (CS) is progressing well, Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa says.
Kaupa told The National that the project, funded by National Capital District Commission and contracted to Phoenix Construction Company Ltd, was launched in October last year.
“The progress of the work on the road is almost reaching the end of De La Salle Secondary School,” he said.
Kaupa said the road would be completed before the end of the year.
“It’s progressing well, the construction is too slow but they are anticipating to complete it by end of this year.”
The project includes sealing the Hiritano Highway to the Bomana Correctional Services boom gate.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop assured the people at Bomana and CS that the next development in the area would be a shopping centre with the help of business houses.
The project is expected to include a 3.4km two-lane road.
Parkop said the CS deserved high quality roads because they contributed immensely to the city in terms of providing security.
He said the CS was a crucial institution in Port Moresby and people tend to look at them for their wellbeing and safety and because of that the support was called for.
Parkop said there were plans for a new mini stadium to be built there.
