A NEW road will allow more than 3000 people living in the Usino-Bundi district in Madang to reach Jimi district in Jiwaka.
Gama local level government president Elijah Kas said people living in Ward Nine, Ward 10 and Ward 11 could now use the 42-kilometre road funded by him and his brother Jim Kas, the Madang Governor.
Elijah allocated K37,000 from the 2013 LLG service improvement programme funds and Jim gave K70,000 from the provincial service improvement programme funds.
The road will make the transportation of people and cash crops easier.
It will also provide better access to government services at the nearest government station in Jimi.
Kas said he was happy that the people and the contractors had used the funds wisely in building the road.
“Since Madang town is far from our area, the people can now travel on the Dega Gundai road to Jimi to sell their coffee beans,” he said.
Kas said three aid posts and a school were forced to close as government officers found it hard to live there because there was no road to the Gama LLG.
