HIGHWAY travellers from the Highlands and Madang who commute by night are being offered decent, safe and affordable accommodation when they arrive in Lae.

Lae-based Western Highlands businessman Thomas Kawal said he had noticed the need to provide accommodation for the increasing number of people requiring transit accommodation when arriving in Lae.

He has built a 12-bedroom guest house for people travelling on the tulait-tulait bus.

Kawal, 52, from Hagen Central, said he built the guest house to address the accommodation problems faced by passengers who travel late into Lae on the tulait-tulait bus services.

He said many people had been robbed and attacked after they got dropped off by PMVs in the night .

He said that was because they had nowhere to sleep.

Kawal is charging people K30 for day use and K70 for night use.

“People travelling up and down the highway deserve a better alternative accommodation at an affordable price that suits their budget,” he said.

Kawal said no alcohol was permitted in the premises.

All the rooms have fans, spacious cabins and double-size mattresses, a common toilet, bathroom and a common fridge.

The property cost Kawal K110,000 to build. It was opened last month.

The KTY guest house is located on Bumbu Road, near Kamkumung.

Kawal operates a similar guest house in Kagamuga, Mt Hagen.
