A NEW high school in Central Nakanai, West New Britain, will benefit students from the area who used to travel far to schools offering grade 9 and above.
The Central Nakanai High School was built by the provincial government and the education division and located next to the Kae Primary School.
It will start enrolling students for grade 9 from schools in Central Nakanai.
Provincial education adviser Paul Laure visited the school last week and told parents and guardians to help in building a teacher’s quarters.
“You were crying for this (high school). Now it is right here at your doorsteps. You have to play your part and contribute by building a teacher’s house,” Laure said.
The high school will be registered this year. Education officers from Port Moresby will be in Nakanai to assess it.
Laure challenged the people to be resilient and self-reliant.
“You have oil palm blocks and other forms of economic activities to make money,” he said.
He said the people at Unea did not have that much money but managed to fund and build permanent teachers’ quarters for their school.
