WESTPAC and bmobile-Vodafone have launched a mobile banking service.

Westpac PNG managing director Geoff Toone and bmobile-Vodafone chief executive officer Sundar Ramamurthy announced the new service in Port Moresby yesterday.

“We want to ensure that our new mobile banking product is as easy to use as possible so we are giving customers the opportunity to sign up by making sure that that bank has your correct mobile number and then  simply dialling *149# and following a  few simple prompts on the screen,” Toone said.

He said Westpac’s new mobile banking platform was highly secure and featured a PIN (personal identification number) controlled access to all functions.

Ramamurthy said they were proud to have worked closely with Westpac to provide “this innovative solution”.

He said customers who banked with Westpac could use can banking services on standard feature phones or smart phones “without having to stand in the queue”.

Bmobile-Vodafone customers with Westpac accounts do not need to go to ATM to get cash to buy phone credits.

Customers can now do their normal banking transaction such as bank balance checks, and transferring of funds within Westpac accounts,  or even to all other banks, within the *149# service.
