New supply of medicines to arrive this week: Temu

A SHIP is arriving this week with a new stock of medicines which will be distributed to hospitals and health facilities around the country, says Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Sir Puka Temu.
Sir Puka told The National that the health department was preparing for the arrival of the medicines by the end of the week.
“I am now working with the Treasury Department to ensure that warrants are released on time,” he said.
“I am also working with the Public Solicitor’s Office to get the contracts for distribution finalised.
“Once the medicine is in the country, we can quickly have them distributed.
“By next week, we should be distributing the 100 per cent medical kits throughout the nation.”
Sir Puka also assured that medicine supply this year would be on schedule because of a new six-month buffer programme.
“We will ensure that new supplies are distributed before medicines in stock run low,” he said.
“We will start the programme once funding is released.”
Sir Puka thanked the Borneo Pacific Pharmaceutical company for acquiring the medicine from overseas and transporting them to PNG before being paid to do so.
A few aid posts have been forced to close due to the lack of medicines.
