New turtle sculpture for Koki

National, Normal

THE sculpture of two green sea turtles will feature at the Koki roundabout as part of the beatification of Port Moresby.
PNG Gardener’s Justin Tkatchenko has commissioned the University of Papua New Guinea Art Faculty to shape and erect the sculpture.
“The turtle sculpture will be 15 meters tall and five meters wide and will be made of steel and concrete,” Mr Tkatchenko said in an email yesterday.
The design, he added, came from Daniel Waswas, who is in charge of the UPNG Art Faculty.
“The sculpture will be up by December and, hopefully, it will serve as a reminder for us to conserve and protect our marine life especially the green sea turtle whose nesting area used to be Ela Beach,” Mr Tkatchenko said.
