THE Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority has bought a vehicle for the Mt Hagen Urban clinic’s family health services to reach more schools and communities.

In the past, school health outreach programmes could not be carried out regularly because there was no vehicle.

The nurse in charge of the family health services in Hagen Central, Sister Doris Kaiwa said the vehicle was long overdue.

She is happy that her team will be able to reach more schools, villages and communities.

She said most of the routine immunisation programmes were concentrated in Mt Hagen, leaving children in nearby villages untreated.

This will now be possible with the new vehicle.

Authority chief executive officer Dr James Kintwa said children and mothers would greatly benefit. He said he would make his official vehicle available for the workers.

He urged his staff to concentrate on the immunisation programme.

Meanwhile, he  said an assessment of water supply to rural health facilities had been completed.
