DELIVERING government services to the outlying islands of Manus will be made easier with the addition of a new vessel to serve the islanders.

The mv Trader Star was launched by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill in Port Moresby yesterday.

The 38-tonne vessel will serve the outer islands of  Rapatona, Balopa and Avavuvulu.

Manus MP Ronnie Knight said the K25 million vessel was bought with district services improvement programme funds.

Knight said it would help provincial officers in delivering services to the people and transport produce like cocoa and copra to markets.

O’Neill said the vessel would deliver much-needed services .

He said the policy would be rolled out in provinces over the next four to five years.

He said such initiatives indicated that Government’s vision was working in the provinces.
