A NEWBORN baby boy was found floating in the sea in the early hours of Easter Monday in Manus, police say.
Police commander Chief Inspector David Yapu said police retrieved the body between 6am and 8am.
Police suspect that the mother must have disposed of the body after giving birth during the night.
The mother would be arrested soon with the help of the community, police say.
Police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information to assist detectives locate the mother.
In another report, a man from Matalau village in Rabaul district of East New Britain residing in Manus, has been charged with rape and abuse of trust.
The stepfather allegedly sexually abused his daughter aged 13 between January and March this year.
Meanwhile, Yapu said Easter police operation in the province was relatively quiet.
Yapu said it was good to see a peaceful Easter weekend across the province.
He thanked the people of Manus for observing a peaceful Easter in the province.
Yapu said people should continue peaceful celebrations during Christmas and New Year.
