NEWCOMERS Birdwing claimed a 38-35 victory against the Tamaraws in the National Capital District Basketball Association men’s A-grade at the Hohola Courts on Sunday.
It was a neck-and-neck affair as both teams — with the inclusion of current and former players from the Papua New Guinea Men’s Basketball League — set the pace for their respective sides.
Tamaraws were leading 23-18 at the break and clicked in the early part of the final half.
But a high percentage of missed shots hurt the Tamaraws badly, allowing the opposition to capitalise on the shortfall and hit the front.
With 60 seconds before fulltime and Birdwing leading by a whisker, former PNG guard Gabby Elavo hit a three-pointer to draw the scores (35-35).
But another three baskets were enough to give Birdwing the win.
In the other clash, Mayawala beat the 9-Mile Rangers 35-23.
