The National Fisheries Authority (NFA) has announced it will start receiving proposals for funding under fisheries droject development fund (PDF) for this year.

Funds for the project were committed through project development scheme for fisheries development within provinces.

In a paid advertisement, NFA has invited artisanal fishermen and women, fish farmers and corporate societies, who are engaging in fisheries development activities to submit their proposals for funding.

The two categories under PDF include community fisheries support and small-to- medium scale enterprise (SMEs) support programmes.

According to NFA, funding for the first category is provided for projects that are aimed at providing for wider communal beneficiaries and may not be profit-oriented.

The maximum amount for each of the projects under this category is K10,000 with twelve projects per province to be considered for funding.

Allocation in the next category aimed to support the SMEs in acquiring capital items to enhance operation of those enterprises.

Those who are eligible to apply under the second category should have companies that are 100% citizen-owned and should have been operational in the fisheries industry for the past three years.
