NFS considering roof over outer stands

THERE are plans and considerations in place by the Oil Search National Football Stadium owners and the venue’s trustees to build roofs for its outer stands.
Since 2016 fans have had to endure the heat and glare from direct sunlight in 70 per cent of the stadium’s seating with only the grandstand amply covered with a roof.
Stadium general manager Lee Pokarop said roofing for the entire venue was being considered but costs would dictate the type of covering and the extent of it.
“There is roofing or canopy covering but that is all to be considered as it can only provide so much coverage,” he said.
“We are considering the cost of erecting this for the fans because we understand the humid and hot conditions of Port Moresby.”
Pokarop advised fans who came to the venue to wear hats and sunglasses and bring water as well as wearing enough clothing to shield against the heat of the sun.
He said unfortunately umbrellas were among a list of prohibited items fans could bring to the venue.
He said other than the lack of shade the venue provided adequate amenities and services for fans to watch rugby league matches.
