THE National Gaming Control Board has given K300,000 to the PNG Christian Leaders Alliance on HIV and AIDS to support its summit next month.
Board chief executive officer Imelda Agon said the funds came from its community benefit fund to support the summit in Port Moresby.
“We believe that HIV and AIDS is a real issue in the country and I want to acknowledge the church for your efforts and the church leaders for coming together and helping,” Agon said.
“The churches are established before us in terms of education, health. So the programme or summit is really important.”
She said there was a lot of discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS and church leaders played a major role in changing that perception so everyone could live harmoniously.
Chairperson Cardinal Sir John Ribat thanked the board and the prime minister for responding to their request.
He said the organisation was set up on May 10, 2010, and launched by Governor-General Sir Paulius Matane to unite the churches with the Government to address HIV in the country.
