ALL human beings are created in the image of God and should take part fully in development, World Vision Pacific Development Group Operations director Samaresh Nayak said.
He said that was the theme of International Children’s Day that was observed last Thursday by the World Vision Pacific Development Group Port Moresby Programme, together with children with special needs from the Cheshire Home at Hohola.
Nayak handed over three boxes of toys to the Cheshire Home School after World Vision’s Christian Commitment coordinator Pastor Agnes Pijui opened the day’s programme with prayer and songs.
That was followed by fun games that the children and adults took part in. The fun activities included bucket game, chair dance and wheel chair volleyball.
The children displayed their art and school work based on the day’s theme.
After a light lunch prepared by World Vision staff, the programme ended with a clean-a-thon where staff took rakes, brooms, wheelbarrows and cleaned up the area around the home.
About 30 staff observed this special day with about 21 service users who live within the home and other children with special needs who attend school from home and are picked up and dropped off each day.
“The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland, proclaimed June 1 to be International Children’s Day in 1925.
“The day is usually marked with speeches on children’s rights and well-being and other activities,” Nayak said.
