THE National Housing Corporation (NHC) is to discuss with Prime Minister James Marape issues surrounding the Duran Farm project, and an affordable housing plan, says Housing Minister Justin Tkatchenko. “We will discuss (with PM Marape) Duran Farm and the future of a low-cost housing scheme to ensure the Government puts roofs over the heads of Papua New Guineans who want to own a house,” he said. The Duran Farm project in Port Moresby had to be put on hold because of court case involving a landowner group claiming to be the traditional owners of the land.
The NHC won the case in the National court last week, confirming that Duran Farm is on State land.
“We are cleaning the mess (left) by past employees and management,” he said.
Tkatchenko urged Papua New Guineans who have a genuine complaint to write to the NHC management or lodge it with the Ombudsman Commission.
Managing director Henry Mokono said the contract to demolish about 60 houses in Duran would be awarded to a local company.
