TENANTS of National Housing Corporation-owned properties have been told to comply with rental arrears notices issued by its officers.
A joint statement by Housing Minister John Kaupa, pictured, and acting managing director Kenneth Cooke said the notices were a normal and routine requirement stipulated in the tenancy agreements.
“The corporation is a self-sustaining entity of the State and therefore, will continue in its efforts to recover its much-needed revenue through issuing of notices as a normal recovery mechanism,” it said.
“You are reminded that as tenants you have a moral duty and responsibility to comply or respond to these notices.
“In all fairness, tenants are given adequate leniency to pay up whereby notices are issued within four different time lapse depending on the respective responses received.”
It said the process of recovery involved the issue of an initial 21-day notice, then a second 14-day notice, then a third seven-day notice, before a final 24-hour notice to pay or quit.
If the tenant still fails to respond, corporation will carrying out eviction actions.
Kaupa had earlier said a total ban on illegal sales and evictions still remain in force.
Tenants of other housing schemes have been advised to reconcile their accounts or seek technical assistance to process their titles.
