STUDENTS attending Tanir and Nasko high schools in New Ireland began their school year yesterday with a visit from Governor Sir Julius Chan.

They were pleasantly surprised to see new classrooms, dining hall, laboratory and ablution blocks.

Work is progressing at the Konomatalik High School in New Hanover.

“The buildings will not only be of the highest quality with a design life of more than 50 years, but it will also include elements of NI traditional flair in its design,” Sir Julius said.

“This will be a model for all future high and secondary schools in the province in the country.”

The visit gave Sir Julius the opportunity to inspect work by the provincial government under the Tax Credit Scheme at the two new schools.

Work is progressing at the Tanir High School on its administration building, a science laboratory, a practical skills laboratory, a dining hall, ablution block for males and females and three staff quarters.

The provincial government has funded the construction of temporary buildings to enable classes to begin at Naso High School.
