The National Information and Communications Technology Authority (Nicta) held an exhibition to inform students about its scholarship programme.
Principal project engineer Mouina Kapal told The National last Thursday that its scholarship programme is aimed at empowering women and girls in information communication technology (ICT) and science.
“This programme provides four scholarships to tertiary students annually especially girls completing grade 12,” Kapal said.
She said the scholarship assists girls in studying ICT and science related subjects at various universities in the country.
According to Kapal, the scholarship covers full payment of tuition fees, book allowances, travel allowances and accommodation.
At the exhibition Kapal and her team distributed brochures about girls in ICT and answered queries from interested students.
The exhibition was held at Vision city in Port Moresby last week.
The scholarship programme which started in 2013 has assisted 12 students studying at the University of Papua New Guinea, Divine Word University and University of Technology.
The pioneers will be completing their studies this year and will be the first batch to graduate next year.
